Applications for QUT Creative Enterprise Australia’s Creative3 Pitch event are now open
QUT Creative Enterprise Australia has opened applications for the Creative3 Pitch event to startups seeking early stage funding. The pitch is Australia’s only event that connects creative entrepreneurs with angel investors.
The event to be held on the September 22 as a breakfast pitch, is designed to focus on improving collaboration and transparency between creative technology businesses and the investment community. Founders from the winning team will go on to represent Australia in Copenhagen, Denmark at the Creative Business Cup, home to creative and innovative entrepreneurs from around the world.
CEO of QUT CEA, Anna Rooke said, “The Creative3 Pitch is all about unlocking the enormous potential of creative industries ventures that are already showing strong growth trajectory – we really want to encourage creative entrepreneurs from all around Australia to apply.”
To apply startups must send through a 90-second pitch video to QUT CEA, where a total of eight will be selected to workshop and develop their idea as part of the pre-event program. Rooke says she is looking for startups that connect creativity and technology, which include businesses working in wearable tech, 3D printing, multimedia games, music tech, fashion tech, IoT and big data.
“It’s really about demonstrating three things. The first thing is startups need to show scalability, they need to be a global faced business. The second is founders need to really articulate go-to market plan and show they really understand the competition landscape. The third is they need to be really clear on what kind of investment they’re looking for,” explains Rooke.
Over the last four years the event has invited early stage investors from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney to attend. Rooke is also part of operating the CEA startup fund, which opens up more investment opportunities for startups entering the Creative3 Pitch event. High growth creative startups have received in the past $150,000 in funding from the accelerator.
The winner of Creative3 Pitch will receive flights and accommodation for the Creative Business Cup in Denmark. The global event will provide startups with the opportunity to network with some of the biggest venture capitalists in Europe. The event has over 60 countries taking part, with 200 European investors. Creative Business Cup is one of the world’s highest profile events for creative tech startups with the Crown Prince of Denmark presenting the winning prize.
“We want to continue to project our homegrown startups onto the world stage and encourage them to be thinking global from day one – so to be part of the Creative Business Cup in Denmark, an international leader in the creative tech field, is an opportunity of a lifetime for the four finalists,” said Rooke.
This event is in its 4th year of running and has seen many startups go on to become successful global players. Last years winner from Adelaide BlueThumb, an online art gallery platform connecting buyers with artwork, closed investment before the overseas pitch night and are growing steadily in online art marketplace. Another previous startup Like A Photon Creative, recently secured investment from QUT CEA.
“For three years running now, CEA’s own Startup Fund has invested in one of the Creative3 Pitch finalist companies. We expect this year will be no exception as the high quality applications continue to roll in and set even greater standards,” Rooke said.
