Bigcommerce enters strategic partnership with eBay to give retailers access to larger sales channel

After a two year collaboration Bigcommerce has announced the launch of a formal strategic partnership with eBay which will give sellers a way to efficiently list products and manage inventory on eBay using the eBayLINK app. The company states that the integration will help retailers to sell up to 50 percent more by giving them access to the largest online marketplace in Australia.

“eBay’s vibrant seller and buyer networks in Australia and New Zealand are unparalleled, and this partnership enables Bigcommerce merchants to directly access tens of millions of potential customers,” says Russell Klein, Bigcommerce’s senior vice president of corporate development.

“Our desire is to provide merchants the tools required to increase sales and reach new audiences without introducing technical complexity.”

“We look forward to working with Bigcommerce to introduce thousands of new sellers to the largest community of online shoppers in Australia,” added Tim MacKinnon, eBay’s senior director of retailer growth.

“In today’s competitive industry, retailers have an incredible opportunity to grow their business across multiple channels, and this integration gives them the opportunity to reach millions of new customers.”

The app is now available through the Bigcommerce platform to its retailers in Australia and New Zealand. With eBay generating over eight million unique visits every month, with half the retailers in the Asia-Pacific region selling through the online platform, the partnership with eBay will provide Bigcommerce retailers with an incremental sales growth opportunity.

The features offered to Bigcommerce clients through the integration include:

  • Rapid bulk listing and central management: Sellers can quickly create eBay listings using customisable templates and save hundreds of hours with automatic product mapping to eBay categories. They can easily push products in bulk to eBay and post hundreds of listings in a matter of minutes.
  • Custom pricing, postage and offers: Sellers can set custom pricing and discount rules for their listings as well as run tailored promotions to generate demand, such as free or discounted postage offers.
  • Centralised inventory management: Sellers can sync stock levels and eBay orders with their online store for streamlined fulfillment and order management. They no longer have to manually manage processes across various channels. Once integrated, they will be able to view their entire product catalogue and inventory within the Bigcommerce control panel and their customers will be automatically alerted on their order status.   

The partnership is good news for Bigcommerce co-founder and board member Mitchell Harper, coming a week after he announced the closure of his other venture, People Spark. Launched a few months ago, it was only last December that Harper self invested $1 million into the startup, saying that he wanted to go “all in,” and “put his money where his mouth is.”

The announcement of the new partnership with eBay is the latest in a line of moves Bigcommerce has made to further push its growth in the market. The company acquired Zing in April last year in a bid to accelerate its omni-channel strategy, before launching an enterprise-grade platform for high volume retailers in May and announcing an integration with Twitter in October.
