AHALife acquires Bezar; Cisco to acquire Jasper Technologies for $1.4 billion; OutSystems raises $55 million

After another busy week for startups, Australian lifestyle marketplace AHALife has acquired design marketplace Bezar, while Cisco is set to acquire Jasper Technologies for $1.4 billion. Meanwhile, online small business lender Spotcap has raised almost $50 million to grow its operations around the world, including in Australia, and OutSystems raised $55 million.

Acquisitions

Bountye acquires Clothesline

Australian community buying and selling startup Bountye has acquired Brisbane startup Clothesline, which was aimed at women aged 17-24 looking to buy and sell pre-loved clothing. The Clothesline app has been deactivated and integrated into Bountye’s offering.

AHALife acquires Bezar

AHALife, the Australia-based lifestyle marketplace, has acquired design marketplace Bezar. Bradford Shellhammer, founder and CEO of Bezar, said in a statement, “Since Bezar’s inception, we’ve been seeking ways to work together, sharing the strong belief that the best way to support independent designers was to build a sustainable marketplace for them. This past summer, we began to formalize the combination of our businesses. With this merger, we’re able to further support our mutual vision of building the leading global online marketplace for curated products.”

Meteoric to acquire People Post

Meteoric is set to acquire crowdsourced courier startup People Post. A statement from Meteoric explained that “the acquisition of People Post will create a significant opportunity for both Meteoric and People Post stakeholders that will allow People Post to further consolidate its first to market advantage and become a major force in the lucrative and disruptive ‘Sharing Economy’ market.”

Bulletproof to acquire CloudHouse

Bulletproof has announced that it is to acquire the business assets of New Zealand cloud services company Cloud House Limited. Bulletproof has agreed to pay NZ$1m from existing cash reserves, while the owners of Cloud House may earn up to a further NZ$4.2m, split between cash and shares, payable based on performance targets to be achieved up to the end of June 2017, or earlier if achieved earlier. The Cloud House team will also move into the Bulletproof team as part of the acquisition.

Cisco to acquire Jasper Technologies for $1.4 billion

Cisco has announced that it is set to acquire Jasper Technologies, a cloud-based IoT service platform, for $1.4 billion in cash and assumed equity awards and additional retention based incentives. Chuck Robbins, CEO of Cisco, said in a statement, “I am excited about the opportunity for Cisco and Jasper to accelerate how customers recognise the value of the Internet of Things. Together, we can enable service providers, enterprises and the broader ecosystem to connect, automate, manage, and analyse billions of connected things, across any network, creating new revenue streams and opportunities.

Microsoft acquires SwiftKey

Microsoft has acquired SwiftKey, a company that makes keyboard software for iOS and Android devices, in a deal estimated to be worth around $250 million. Harry Shum, executive vice president, technology and research at Microsoft, said in a statement, “In this cloud-first, mobile-first world, SwiftKey’s technology aligns with our vision for more personal computing experiences that anticipate our needs versus responding to our commands, and directly supports our ambition to reinvent productivity by leveraging the intelligent cloud.”

IBM to acquire Ecx.io

IBM has announced that it has acquired ecx.io, a German digital agency. The acquisition will help extend the strategy and design expertise of IBM Interactive Experience, with new marketing, commerce, and platform skills to accelerate clients’ digital transformations. 200 of ecx.io’s employees will be joining IBM.

IBM to acquire Aperto

IBM has announced that it is to acquire Aperto, another German digital agency. Like Ecx.io, Aperto too will be joining the IBM Interactive Experience team. Aperto’s 300-plus employees will continue to work with their current clients, which include Volkswagon and Siemens.

Housejoy acquires MyWash

Indian home services startup Housejoy has acquired laundry and cleaning startup MyWash to expand its offering. The acquisition comes a month after Housejoy raised a $23 million Series A round.

Zagg to acquire Mophie for $100 million

Zagg, a company making smartphone accessories, has acquired fellow accessory maker Mophie in a deal estimated to be worth $100 million. Mophie’s CEO Daniel Huang and COO Shawn Dougherty will stay on at Zagg.

Funding

Spotcap raises $48.5 million

Online lender for small and medium size businesses Spotcap has raised nearly $50 million in its third financing round and announced a new partnership with private equity firm Finstar Financial Group. The new shareholder will help to accelerate the startup’s global growth and implement value-adding strategies to grow Spotcap’s operations in Australia, Spain, and the Netherlands.

OutSystems raises $55 million

OutSystems, an enterprise RAD platform, has raised $55 million from North Bridge Growth Equity, with the funding to go towards capitalising on growth in the space. North Bridge partners Mike Pehl and Jim Moran will be joining OutSystems’ board.

Sonotype raises $30 million

Sonatype has raised $30 million in an equity and debt financing round led by Goldman Sachs’ Principal Strategic Investments Group, with all current investors participating in the round. The funding will go towards accelerating sales, marketing, product development, and international market opportunities.

Lamudi raises $31.4 million 

Lamudi, a Rocket Internet-backed real estate listing platform for emerging markets, has raised $31.4 million in a round led by Asia Pacific Internet Group, Holtzbrinck Ventures, and Tengelmann Ventures. The funds will be used to solidify the startup’s presence across Asia and Latin America.

Curalate raises $27.5 million Series C round

Image recognition marketing startup Curalate has raised $27.5 million in a Series C round led by NEA, with participation from existing investors including First Round Capital and MentorTech Ventures. This round brings the startup’s total funding to date to $40 million.

Widespace raises $17.2 million

Mobile ad platform Widespace has raised $17.2 million in growth capital from Kreos, with existing investors also participating in this round. The funding will go towards solidifying the startup’s presence in Europe and expanding into new markets.

Geofeedia raises $17 million

Location startup Geofeedia has raised $17 million in a funding round led by Silversmith Capital Partners, with participation from existing investors. The funding will go towards further development of Geofeedia’s platform. Todd MacLean, managing partner and cofounder of Silversmith, will join Geofeedia’s board of directors.
